Warwick Davis is a founder of the Reduced Height Theatre Company, which stages theatrical productions cast exclusively with short actors and using reduced height sets.
Warwick Davis has dwarfism due to a rare genetic disorder called Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Congenital (SED). He has said that the only draw back to his dwarfism is the related health problems that come with it.
The family have spoken about issues with their dwarfism, such as losing their son Lloyd shortly after birth as he was both born with SED and achondroplasia, a fatal genetic combination. Their children Annabelle and Harrison both have SED, and have had many operations and medications growing up.
Dwarfism occurs when an individual person is short in stature resulting from a medical condition caused by abnormal (slow or delayed) growth. In humans, dwarfism is sometimes defined as an adult height of less than 4 feet 10 inches. Dwarfism can be caused by about 200 distinct medical conditions, such that the symptoms and characteristics of individuals with dwarfism vary greatly.
There are several different kinds of dwarfism, such as: achondroplasia, diastrophic dysplasia, spondylo-epiphyseal dysplasia (SED), pseudoachondroplasia, hypochondroplasia, and osterogenesis imperfecta (OI).
Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Congenita
Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita is a rare disorder of bone growth that results in dwarfism, characteristic skeletal abnormalities, and occasionally problems with vision and hearing. The name of the condition indicates that it affects the bones of the spine (spondylo-) and the ends of bones (epiphyses), and that it is present from birth.
